Gifted by Kamehameha I Paiʻea to King George III in 1810.

His ʻahuʻula was crafted from the feathers of the ʻiʻiwi, ʻōʻō, and māmo, woven together with olonā fiber. Today, this sacred piece remains in the Royal Collection in London and has been on loan to the British Museum since 1903.

In January, a small group of us from @kaulananapua.journeys traveled to London for the opening of the Hawaiʻi: A Kingdom Crossing Oceans exhibit — a gathering filled with presentation, moʻolelo, kūpuna artifacts, and ʻohana.

Coming home from that journey, I felt deeply inspired. Kamehameha Paiʻea’s cloak has not been publicly seen for over 100 years, and because it rests so far from home, many of our Kānaka may never have the opportunity to witness it in person.

I wanted to create this ring with purpose.

I may not be an ʻahuʻula maker, but through my art, I can continue to share aloha, ʻike, and connection to our history.

While my rendition is not an exact replica of the cloak in London, every detail was created with intention — a representation of Kamehameha Paiʻea’s ʻahuʻula, carrying the hope that our people may still feel a connection to it through my work.

Metal is
a highly durable, eco-friendly coating process that molecularly bonds a thin layer of gold (14k) to a base metal (stainless steel) in a vacuum chamber. It is scratch-resistant, hypoallergenic, water resistant.

About Gold-Filled Jewelry:

Gold-filled jewelry is naturally tarnish-resistant, but we recommend removing it when possible and storing it in a dry place. Frequent exposure to soaps, lotions, and constant friction against the skin can cause the gold layer to wear more quickly over time.

If worn continuously—such as while swimming, showering, or sleeping—you may begin to see signs of wear within 6 months to a year. With proper care and regular removal, your gold-filled pieces can maintain their beauty for many years, even a lifetime.

Scrapping and scuffing on rough surfaces will result in damage to the Gold Filled and will show base metal. We will not exchange or refund.
